Set thermostats and automatic sprinklers for winter. Clean gutters after leaves have fallen. Make sure downspouts are in good repair. Check gauges on home fire extinguishers to ensure a full charge: replace if necessary. To prevent duct fires and save energy have dryer exhaust duct and vent professionally inspected and cleaned every one to three years, depending on how often you use the dryer (remove lint from dryer filter after each use). To avoid water damage check washing machine hoses for leaks, cracks or bulging. Also prevent water damage and electrical malfunctions by inspecting water heater for rust or cracks (drain the tank every six months).
